Our Mission
Pathway BioMedX is an innovative, community-based STEM education program of the Pathway Initiative Inc, a 501(c)(3), Boston based non-profit organization. Pathway BioMedX aim to inspire and equip future leaders through transformative, experiential learning. Students grow through hands-on projects in our after-school and Summer STEM programs, giving them not only academic, but technical skills, and also a lifelong love of careers in medicine, health sciences, biotechnology, life sciences, computer science, and engineering. Empowering students to bring innovation and service to communities everywhere is at the heart of what we do.
Our Vision
We believe every student deserves the chance to dream big. At Pathway BioMedX, our program empowers middle and high school students to excel in honors and AP courses, compete for admission to top-tier Ivy League and selective universities, and prepare for fulfilling STEM careers. Our after school programs near you help students level up academically while developing leadership for the future.

Our Approach
Our afterschool enrichment program opens doors for motivated middle and high school students eager to pursue rewarding careers in bioengineering, medicine, and engineering. We support students at every stage – from middle school through college and even into graduate programs. This means kids in our STEM afterschool programs get the help they need, whether it’s through academic content tutorials, college preparation, test prep, internships, leadership training, or one-on-one professional mentorship. Goals are more attainable when there’s encouragement and guidance at every step.
Our Story
Dr. Lawrence B. Mensah was inspired to establish The Pathway Initiative in 2020 through his own educational journey. He holds a BSc (Hons) in Biomedical Sciences from the University of the West of England, UK; a master’s degree in medical Genetics and Immunogenetics from Brunel University, UK; and a triple doctorate in Anatomy, Physiology, and Genetics from the University of Oxford, UK. He also trained as a scientist and researcher at the University of Cambridge, Harvard Medical School (HMS), and the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT).
Coming from humble beginnings in a small town in Ghana, Dr. Mensah firmly believes that every child has talent and potential and that, with the right support, they can contribute meaningfully to society. We believe that when determined and ambitious individuals are given access and opportunity, they can build fulfilling careers in any path they choose.
