Middle School STEM Academy – Summer

Unlike The Pathway Initiative’s city-funded programs, the Middle School STEM Academy, offered during the school year and over the summer, is a fee-for-service program. We encourage families who are able, with students who are interested in STEM, to pursue this program to set up their children for success in college and future careers, while helping to support TPI’s programming for underserved and low-income students.

Who This Program Is For

The Middle School STEM Academy is an immersive, experiential program offered year-round for students in grades 6–8. This hands-on curriculum sparks curiosity, builds critical thinking, and prepares students for careers in medicine, life sciences, biotechnology, and engineering.

This STEM enrichment program lays a strong foundation for success in Honors and AP science courses and positions students for competitive college admissions, including Ivy League schools. Participants engage in high-impact experiences using Zspace VA/VR simulations for scientific exploration, human models and lab experiments for biology, 3D printing for bioengineering and design, and programmable robotics to build coding and problem-solving skills applicable to biotechnology and biomedicine.

Summer Program

The summer program runs from June to August, in person at The Pathway Initiative’s STEM Innovation Lab in Downtown Boston. Students experience hands-on learning in a dry lab, exploring bioengineering, robotics, coding, 3D modeling and design. The program runs for 30 hours each week and costs $699 per week, with discounts available for early birds and siblings!

We offer the following programs for Middle and High School students:
Summer Programs (June–August):

  • Middle School Summer STEM Academy (MS-SSA) – TPI STEM Innovation Lab

Afterschool Programs (September–May):

  • Middle School Afterschool STEM Academy (MS-ASA)
  • High School Afterschool STEM Academy (HS-ASA)

Both summer programs run Monday through Friday, 9:00 AM – 3:00 PM, from June through August.

Our programs are designed to provide students with hands-on, interdisciplinary exposure to some of the most exciting and in-demand fields in STEM. Participants explore a wide range of subjects including bioengineering, robotics, health science and medicine, coding, 3D modeling and design, and general engineering concepts. High school students, in particular, benefit from immersive research lab experiences that simulate real-world scientific inquiry and innovation. These topics are woven into both the summer and afterschool curricula, offering students opportunities to build foundational knowledge, apply problem-solving skills, and develop their interests through practical, project-based learning.

Our high school summer and after-school programs take place at the real research lab environment, offering students a unique opportunity to engage with advanced research tools and a real-world lab environment.

Middle school programs, both summer and after-school, are hosted at the TPI STEM Innovation Lab at 89 South Street LL00, Boston, MA 02111, a dedicated space designed to foster creativity, hands-on experimentation, and foundational STEM learning. Each location is thoughtfully chosen to align with the

Yes, a deposit is required to reserve a spot and is applied toward total tuition.

Full tuition for all summer programs is due by May 25, 2025. For families who register after this date, payment must be made in full within two weeks of submitting the deposit, or no later than the program’s start date—whichever comes first. It’s important to note that late payments may result in the forfeiture of the student’s place in the program, and in such cases, the deposit becomes non-refundable. We strongly encourage families to adhere to these deadlines to secure their child’s enrollment and avoid any disruptions.

Our refund policy is designed to provide flexibility while ensuring we can effectively plan and staff our programs. Deposits are fully refundable if requested within seven days of payment and before May 25. After May 25, deposits are only refundable within 72 hours of payment. Once the program has begun, no refunds will be issued under any circumstances. However, in the event of a documented illness or injury that prevents participation, partial refunds may be considered on a case-by-case basis—though the deposit will remain non-refundable. We recommend reaching out as early as possible if changes to your child’s enrollment are needed.
